{Suite} Aotearoa Art Fair 2022 | Stand C9: The Cloud, Auckland
{Suite} is pleased to present a selection of work by artists Wayne Youle, Richard Lewer, Tia Ansell, Georgia Spain, Daniel Unverricht, Angela Singer and Bruce Connew at the 2022 Aotearoa Art Fair. Stand C9 | 16 Nov - 20 Nov, The Cloud, Auckland.
Anchoring our presentation are two new large-scale paintings by Daniel Unverricht portraying night-time scenes of a former BNZ building and shopfront with its shutters rolled down against the night.
Wayne Youle's new work follows on from his recent DNA(EIOU) exhibition at {Suite} Wellington. DNA has been a recurring theme in Youle's work over the years, but in these works, he imagines how his blood might look under a microscope, the koru representing his Māori heritage and the circles and other shapes are the joiners.
Tia Ansell's new weaving paintings deconstructs fundamental elements of a painting; Ansell's practice calls attention to the origin of the woven substrate and its context within contemporary art. Ansell utilises the loom to explore intricate weaving patterns generated using her idiosyncratic coding system based on urban landscapes.
Richard Lewer has made a series of four new works based on Herman Melville's 1851 novel Moby-Dick, an epic story revolving around Captain Ahab and his obsession with a huge and elusive white whale. The whale caused the loss of Ahab's leg and the disciplinarian is so preoccupied by his desire to kill the whale, that he is prepared to sacrifice everything, including his ship, the lives of his crew, and his own life, in order to exercise revenge.
{Suite} is also pleased to introduce work by Melbourne-based artist Georgia Spain. Exploring the complexities of human behaviour, Spain's paintings utilise narrative and storytelling to examine the cultural, political and personal.
Completing our presentation are recent works by Angela Singer & Bruce Connew.
