Jaimee Peters | New Paintings: {Suite} Ponsonby
{Suite} Ponsonby is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Jaimee Peters (Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa).
Jaimee's practice occupies a tenuous threshold between abstraction and representation, drawing from architectural structures to visualise domains at once real and illusory.
In this new series, Jaimee turns her attention to New Zealand, buildings; significant landmarks of our major cities including Te Papa Tongarewa and the Auckland Museum.
Hunting through photographs online, Jaimee selects images to shape the starting point of her paintings, then plays with spaces, shadows and layers to form the works.
Jamiee’s process is organic and constantly evolving. Many alterations are made during the progression of the painting with space and shadow changing throughout. In this series, there is more focus on larger areas of blocked space, with these spaces providing an abrupt covering to the layers behind.
Jaimee Peters lives and works in Te Whanganui-a- Tara, Wellington.
