Step inside the world of Ans Westra at the Aotearoa Art Fair, where the {Suite} stand will be transformed, taking inspiration from Ans’s busy and eclectic house, to showcase a selection of her photographs, as well as paintings from her own collection.
Our 2025 stand is the fruition of an unrealised project by {Suite} x Junk & Disorderly, originally planned for the 2023 Art Fair. Unfortunately, Ans passed away just a few days before the 2023 fair, and the project was placed on hold until this year.
The installation includes vintage silver gelatin prints, and black and white and colour editioned prints. The stand will also feature a number of works by Selwyn Muru who was a close friend of Ans. She held the largest private collection of works by the artist in New Zealand, several of which were gifted to Te Papa Tongarewa, Museum of New Zealand after her death.
Another work on show is a portrait of Ans painted by poet Barry Crump, who she had a brief friendship with. Known as a writer rather than an artist, the portrait is a fascinating almost Picasso inspired pastel and watercolour work, which captures Ans just after she produced some of her most important images for the Washday at the Pa series.
The fair is open Saturday and Sunday from 10am.
