Richard Lewer featured in the latest issue of Art New Zealand.
Richard Lewer's recent show at {Suite} sums up perfectly the way feelings are often expressed only obliquely in the Antipodes - and in fact, often heightened by attempting to hide or suppress them... It's better to burn out than to fate away honours the artist's late mother in two ways: through paintings of various views of Raglan, one of her favourite haunts, and sketch-like pen drawings of her funeral - an impressionistic montage of the random highlights of a bittersweet family reunion.
