Ans Westra

{Suite} Gallery Director David Alsop has had a long association with photographer Ans Westra, which began in 2007 after she was invited to exhibit prints at the newly-opened gallery.  In 2012 they established Suite Tirohanga together to act as agent for Ans, with David taking on the role of manager of her print archive and copyright.

Located in the Wellington gallery is the {Suite} living Westra museum dedicated to celebrating the artist's lifetime of work and images. Visitors may browse through articles dating back to 1960 and view over 200 books featuring Ans' images.  Exhibitions change regularly alongside displays of the artist's ephemera.  A permanent display of Ans’s work is also always on view upstairs at {Suite} Ponsonby.

The range of work for sale consists of silver gelatin photographs, hand printed by Ans in her darkroom and archival pigment prints that have been produced following a project  from 2014 – 2017 between {Suite} and the National Library of New Zealand to digitise Ans’ negative archive. This archive can now be found on the National Library's website. The archival pigment prints of black and white and colour images are produced in an edition of 25 and can be purchased framed or unframed. These images are all stamped on the reverse.
