Angela Singer | Zzzoonotic: {Suite} Wellington
In her exhibition Zzzoonotic, Angela Singer explores a sleeping world waking to the consequences of destruction of habitats and the animal trade: infectious Zoonotic pathogens spilling from animals to humans, and animal to animals.
As scientists seek the specific cause of the COVID-19 outbreak, Singer explores the ecological sources of Zoonotic diseases, the human appetite for animal products, and the spread of human-to-pet COVID-19 transmission. In Singer's Zzzoonotic, birds mutate and meld into strange trees, a black-eyed vintage taxidermy kitten reaches out to a strange otherworldly version of itself, and ghost cats hover and haunt.
For the past 25 years, Singer's art has focused on the human assault on the natural world, and the troubled human animal relationship. She creates work in a range of mediums. Her work has been exhibited in art galleries, palaces and museums around the world from London, Paris, Berlin, to Los Angeles, New York and Melbourne.
