Jaimee Peters | Tia Ansell: {Suite} Ponsonby

A selection of recent work by {Suite} artists Jaimee Peters and Tia Ansell will be on show at the Ponsonby gallery until Christmas. 

Jaimee Peters (Te Rarawa, Ngāti  Kuri, Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa) is an artist based in Wellington. Her practice aims to explore the tension between abstraction and representation and seek an aesthetic resolution that is just out of reach. Reconfiguring linear planes drawn from architectural inspiration with incompatible colour, Jaimee's paintings make a new form part real and part imagined.

Wellington-born Melbourne-based artist Tia Ansell employs the loom to explore intricate weaving techniques that thread together narratives of observational patterns within her urban surroundings.  The patterns function as decorative motifs, yet represent the commonality between materials, images and ideas reduced to their most basic forms. Geometries demonstrating ideas of grids, repetition and familiarity are the link between the weaving pattern and painted image.
